A parish named after the patron saint of lost causes is celebrating 75 years of prayer, community, and service.

St. Jude's Parish was established in 1944. During 75th anniversary celebrations, Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, pointed out that its name has an interesting history.

“Shortly after he was ordained, Father Donald Campbell made a novena to St. Jude for a seemingly hopeless case, at which time he promised that if his petition was answered he would name his first parish after this little-known saint,” he said.

Apparently Father Campbell's prayers were answered, because “when he was appointed the first pastor of the new parish, he was allowed to name it after St. Jude.”

The anniversary celebrations included Mass Oct. 28 and a banquet.

A few weeks before the anniversary, the Empuerto family shared their story of prayers answered thanks to St. Jude. Read their story here.
