After learning about the impact of the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey,   Assumption School students in Powell River decided they wanted to do something to help the victims by raising money for food and water.

Brendan Maguire’s Grade 5/6 class raised $730 through a bake sale.

“I feel horrible for the victims and I am happy that we can help in a small way.  If everyone helps a little, we can accomplish a lot,” said Assumption student Mattea Gatt.

The proceeds were donated to Canadian Foodgrains Bank, an organization that has helped 28,000 people in the affected region over the last 12 months.
