St. Michael’s Elementary School Grade 7 student Jasmine Chow is a finalist for this year’s Canada-Wide Science Fair with her project that found an emergency blanket made from recycled chip bags worked better than two commercially available emergency blankets.

The competition gathers Grades 7-12 students from across Canada to compete for medals, prizes, and academic opportunities.

Chow’s project tested the heat loss from emergency blankets made from recycled chip bags. The data was compared with two commercially available emergency blankets. Chow found the chip bag blanket performed 9.2 per cent better than the commercial blankets.
