SURREY—It was a “weekend like no other” for Chito and Mary Ann Marfori.

The pair, members of St. Matthew’s Parish in Surrey, joined 19 other couples at a retreat for married seniors hosted by Couples for Christ April 7-8. Gathered at Surrey’s Comfort Inn, couples married for a minimum of 30 years (and some for more than 50) united in prayer, listened to presentations, and threw a dance party.

Program coordinator for the Couples for Christ (CFC) Senior Program, Fil Del Mundo, said this was a very important initiative.

“The importance of holding a Senior Couples Retreat is getting more attention now as the CFC community slowly transforms into a greying population. The leadership will need to be more proactive to respond to such an urgency,” and is already planning next year’s retreat.

CFC began hosting annual retreats in Surrey for senior couples in 2017.
