I enjoyed Peter Vogel’s coverage of the solar eclipse. My wife and I managed to see the Great Eclipse in 2017. We stayed in Newberg just south of Portland but still needed to drive south that morning towards Salem to be in the totality zone.

Not sure where to stop, we happened upon a parish church (St. Edward’s) in Kaiser where they were providing parking and coffee by donation. It was an amazing view.

So for 2024, we decided to stay in Niagara on the Lake. The St. Vincent de Paul church bulletin even included a section on the eclipse. Unfortunately it was cloudy, but it was still an eerie experience, getting very dark, the birds stopping singing, and coyotes starting howling.

Eclipses are a great thing to include in a vacation, and I understand there will be one in Spain in 2026!

It’s so important to be supportive of the Jewish community. We must understand what antisemitism is and how it plays out today in a terrible way.

“Not everyone who is calling for a ceasefire is in favour of destroying Israel,” Rabbi Infeld said.

Of course not. The people who want Israel destroyed are few in the world. It is a sick mindset to even think and express such an attitude.

Almost everyone, given the choice to live in peace with their family and neighbour countries, would opt for that.

Calling for a ceasefire means to look at the options for a peaceful way of life in this region of the Holy Land. We can never accept Israel being threatened with aggression.

Your recent coverage of St. Joseph didn’t mention that he’s been Canada’s patron saint for approximately 400 years.

A saint for families, good husbands, and hard workers is something my country really needs right now.

I’m grateful for Ida Gazzola’s article The Turbulent Teens on raising an connecting with teens.

It’s such an important topic,  and I’m glad she shared so much of the conference she attended.

It’s food for thought for all Catholic parents.
