NORTH VANCOUVER—Grade 7 students at St. Edmund’s are getting a unique opportunity for hands-on learning ... in the kitchen.

Every year, a handful of students gathers in a nutrition and teamwork lesson rarely seen anywhere else. Teacher Mark Dotto is thrilled with the result. “They make websites, how-to cooking videos, and prepare and produce an entire dining experience for a table of guests, and they do it with a time limit!”

Local food critics (parents and community members) arrived at the school April 18 to sample the fare and encourage the students in their efforts.

“We always try to find creative ways to engage our students and let them take the lead in their learning,” said Dotto. “My wife always says I should be a better cook, so what better way to learn than with my students?”
