The Church of the Assumption in Powell River has welcomed a new face.

A statue of St. Padre Pio is now on display at the church, thanks to the generosity of the De Vita family. Longtime members of the parish, the De Vita family moved to Powell River from Bagnoli del Trigno, Italy, in the early 1950s.

Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, blessed the statue in the presence of family members, as well as pastor Father Patrick Tepoorten and assistant pastor Father Irudayampattu "Dass" Arockiadass.
