The icon on our cover is The Flight into Egypt, written by Frank C. Turner. The road the Holy Family would have taken to Egypt was called “the way of the sea,” an ancient trade route along the coast, hence the water in the foreground, with lotus flowers, the national flower of Egypt. There is no scriptural evidence for St. Joseph being an old man, so he is portrayed here as the robust head of a family leading them to safety. Ancient tradition holds they were guided by an angel.
