Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres (1563-1635) experienced great difficulty in governing the Conceptionist Monastery of Quito. During this difficult time, Mary appeared to her as Our Lady of Good Success.
On Jan. 16, 1599, Our Lady foretold the future of Ecuador and the convent. Regarding the convent, Our Lady predicted: “The most powerful king on earth with all his riches could not erect new buildings on this site, for this place belongs to God.” She also said, “We will raise up powerful defenders and set before these enemies difficulties impossible to conquer, and the triumph will be ours.”
On several future occasions, hostile governmental officials sought to move the sisters or close the convent. Not one of these attempts succeeded. In some cases the person in charge died or was removed from office before the order was carried out.
Our Lady requested a statue of hers to be made and placed upon the Abbess’ chair so that Our Lady might govern the Convent. She explained: “In my right hand, place the crosier and the keys to the cloister as a sign of my proprietorship and authority. In my left arm, place my Divine Child: first, so that the men understand how powerful I am in placating the Divine Justice and obtaining mercy and pardon for every sinner who comes to me with a contrite heart, for I am the Mother of Mercy and in me there is only goodness and love; and second, so that throughout time my daughters will understand that I am showing and giving them my most Holy Son and their God as a model of religious perfection. They should come to me, for I will lead them to Him.”
The rebellious nuns continued to cause difficulties. Finally, the Bishop understood clearly that it was a nun, known as “La Capitana,” who was acting as leader of the rebellion. The Bishop ordered La Capitana locked up in prison. During imprisonment, La Capitana was full of resentment and her health declined.
Mother Mariana prayed earnestly for La Capitana before the Blessed Sacrament. She realized that La Capitana would soon die and her soul would be cast into the depths of hell.
As Mother Mariana begged for the salvation of this poor nun, Our Lord appeared as though in the Garden of Olives. Mother Mariana understood that the most intense interior torments of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were the ingratitude and indifference of those souls who, chosen among millions to be his spouses and ministers, left him in grievous solitude. And this despite the fact that in the Holy Sacrament, he would live under the same roof with his spouses and come into the hand of his priests at the simple call of their voices at the most solemn moment of the consecration.
In response to the pleading of Mother Mariana, Our Lord proposed the unimaginable. In order to save the soul of La Capitana, Mother Mariana had to suffer five years of hell for her. This would save La Capitana from the eternal flame of hell, and instead of going to hell, the soul of La Capitana would be in purgatory until the end of the world. Mother Mariana trembled at the proposal, but out of love for La Capitana, she heroically accepted it.
Mother Mariana's sacrifice resulted in the conversion of La Capitana, who made a general confession. Soon after La Capitana’s conversion, Mother Mariana experienced a literal “living hell” for five years. She suffered greatly in her senses and above all, she suffered the pain of loss, feeling the unbearable absence of God. However, during those five painful years, she never lost her lovely calm and expression of peace and serenity, and she continued to observe the rule of the community faithfully with prayer and sacrifice. At the end of the five years, she shared with some nuns saying, “Alas, my sisters! How terrible hell is! No words can describe it!”
聖賢受地獄之苦
瑪利娜.耶穌.陶麗詩修女(1563-1635) 在管理聖方濟各基多無玷修會修院時，遇上很大的困難；在艱難時刻，聖母以「成功之母」的身份給她顯現。
1599年1月16日，聖母向她預言厄瓜多爾和修院的將來。有關修院，聖母說：「即使是世界上最有權勢的皇帝，都不能在這塊地皮上建築另一座建築物，因為這裡是屬於天主的。」又說：「我們會興起強而有力的守護者，在敵人前放置難以克服的困難，勝利將會是屬於我們的。」
事實上，後來有幾位敵對的政府人員，設法把修女們逼離，關閉修院，但沒有一次成功──不是行動前負責的人突然死去，就是被調離崗位。
聖母指示要把她的聖像放置在院長的座位上，讓聖母來親自管理這修院。聖母明言：「我聖像的右手要拿著牧杖和修院迴廊的鑰匙，顯示我擁有這裡和相關的權柄。我的左手要抱著耶穌聖嬰：第一，使人明白到我是如何有能力安撫神聖的公義，並為所有帶着痛悔來到我跟前的罪人，獲得慈悲和恕宥，因為我是慈悲之母，在我內盡是美善和愛；第二，讓我不同世代的女兒們，將明白我把我至聖聖子和她們的天主展示和給她們，作為修道成全的模範。她們要到我這裡來，因為我要領她們到衪。」
逆行的修女們繼續在修院裡興風作浪；最後基多主教知道一位綽號「隊長」的修女是始作蛹者，下令把她關押；不過，這位「隊長」充滿着怨恨，而且，她的健康每況愈下。
瑪利娜姆姆在聖體面前，熱切為「隊長」祈禱，她明白「隊長」將要去世，並被投入地獄的深處。
在熱切的祈禱中，吾主以身處橄欖山園的景象，給瑪利娜姆姆顯現。姆姆明白山園祈禱的耶穌，最感心痛難當的，是祂在眾人中選拔的淨配及神職人員，遺棄衪於悲傷的孤獨中。這些人無視主藉聖體聖事與衪的淨配們處於同一屋簷下，並在司鐸成聖體的說話而來到他們的手中。
回應瑪利娜姆姆的哀禱，吾主提出了不可思議的條件：瑪利娜姆姆要受五年的地獄之苦，「隊長」靈魂則可免下地獄，而要留在煉獄直到世界終結。瑪利娜姆姆聽罷，非常害怕，但為了「隊長」靈魂的得救，勇敢地接受耶穌的旨意。
瑪利娜姆姆的奉獻使「隊長」皈化，辦了總告解。過不了多久，瑪利娜姆姆持續的五個年頭，身心的觀感上，都受著莫名的苦，特別是「失落」的苦，儼如天主離棄了她一樣。不過，這難當的五年，瑪利娜姆姆與別人相處時，都沒有失卻她可愛的平靜，表現平安和安詳；她謹守會規，虔誠祈禱和奉獻。五年時限一過，瑪利娜姆姆鬆一口氣，對同門修女們說：「唉，姊妹們，地獄真可怖！沒有言語可描述它！
