The B.C. Catholic, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, has picked up numerous journalism awards from Canadian and international Christian media organizations.

At the Canadian Christian Communicators Association (CCCA) awards in May, The B.C. Catholic was recognized in several categories.

Editor Paul Schratz earned third place in the editorial category for “Timeline of Death” and in the headline writing category for “Bouquets of Love: offering the lonely blooms instead of tombs.”

The newspaper’s Vocations Package took third place in the service journalism category, with credit going to communications coordinator Claudine Bananal.

The B.C. Catholic’s excellence extended to its visual presentation, earning second place for best newspaper front page, featuring a captivating photo of the art of Father Dunstan Massey, captured by photographer Nicolas Elbers and designed by Inca Siojo Das.

Additionally, the newspaper claimed first place in the newspaper feature layout and design category for “St. Lilo,” also by Siojo-Das.

The newspaper’s digital presence also received recognition, with bccatholic.ca receiving third place in the website general excellence category.

The B.C. Catholic also entered its work on the Archdiocese of Vancouver Annual Report in the Catholic Media Association awards and won first place in the best annual report category at the CMA’s annual conference, which ended on Friday in Atlanta.

The report was a collaborative effort by Siojo-Das, Schratz, and communications office staffers Claudine Bananal, Matthew Furtado, and Emi Namoro.
