RICHMOND--The National Liturgy Conference is coming to the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Called Temple Built of Living Stones, the Nov. 6-7 conference will examine church architecture in general and focus on the Rite for the Dedication of a Church and Altar.

Father Michael McGourty, a priest and liturgist from the Archdiocese of Toronto, will be the keynote speaker for all four sessions of the liturgy conference. The conference takes place every three years, with the last one in St. John’s in 2014.

Although the National Liturgy Conference is primarily of interest to members of liturgy committees, everyone is welcome, including the laity.

The conference is titled Temple Built of Living Stones to reflect the fact the church is the temple of God built with living stones, in which the Father is worshipped in spirit and truth. The church building stands as a sign for the living community that worships within it.

The conference kicks off Monday, Nov. 6, with an early morning pilgrimage to Mission’s Westminster Abbey. Conference sessions will start Nov. 6 in the evening at the Airport Marriott Hotel in Richmond and continue all day Nov. 7. Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, will celebrate the conference’s closing Mass at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Canadian Martyrs church.
