The National Post’s story on Roe Vs Wade reaction took three reporters and at least two news services, all to manufacture a story about American women needing to flee to Canada, refugees of the new American totalitarianism that will prevent them from finding abortions in the U.S.

“Eyes on Canada as abortion haven” was the headline. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stepped up on Twitter like a northern Statue of Liberty, calling on Canadians to  “stand strong” and “defend everybody’s rights and freedoms.”

The mainstream news and social media posts are promoting a story line that American mothers-to-be are in need of a place of safety. With enough fire lighting, agitation, and combustion, they hope to produce a national consensus among Canadians who get their news from social media posts and the nightly TV news. The narrative is that Canada must come to the rescue of Americans while preserving the Canadian state of lawlessness on abortion, and all just as the Conservative leadership campaign and the American mid-term elections are approaching.

The response without fail must be big government action, big money, and big media crusading, all fitting nicely together, so Canadians won’t question the urgency of the cause.

It’s tempting to respond to all the crisis manufacturing, but it would be a waste of time. When an abortion lobby group says Canadians have “the fully enshrined right to this service,” who is going to listen to someone pointing out there is in fact no constitutional right to abortion in Canada and that the Supreme Court of Canada in fact called on government to produce a law balancing the rights of expecting mothers and their unborn children.

As news outlets across the country echo each others’ headlines about the impending crisis, not a single reporter will speak with someone on the other side. There is not a single comment from a crisis pregnancy centre that works every day with volunteer help to save infants’ lives by supporting mothers facing crisis pregnancies.

Not a single reporter will interview a woman who was coerced into ridding herself of the child she wanted to keep.

There is no criticism of spouses, friends, employers, or parents who pressure girls to end the life of their baby.

There are no stories of women being forced to have an abortion to keep their job, to complete their studies, or to keep their boyfriend or husband in the picture.

Every year a hundred thousand women end their babies’ lives in Canada. Many of them say abortion was their only option due to lack of support. Meanwhile the Trudeau government is doing its best to get rid of the few clinics that provide that support, offering advice and resources, often from women who have experienced what they don’t want others to go through.

If you doubt that many women facing crisis pregnancies would keep their babies if supported, read Frederica Frederica-Matthews Green’s new book Real Voices: Women Tell The Story of Their Abortion. Many of the women she speaks with tell horrific stories of wanting to keep their babies despite a crisis pregnancy. In the end they succumbed to pressure to abort from boyfriends, parents, friends, or employers.

Or read the dire accounts on the website Silent No More Awareness. Here’s a sample from a B.C. woman named Aimee.

“I had an abortion because my friends all had abortions and were pressuring me every day. They were telling me how selfish it was to keep the baby because my dad was a Christian. They told me how embarrassing it would be for him to have a teen daughter who was pregnant outside of wedlock. My friends made the appointment for me, and one of my close friends brought me to my appointment a few weeks later.”

The abortion Aimee underwent was just the start of a life of pain and suffering for her. None of it was taken care of by abortion clinics. Just like none of the stories of coercion women face to end their babies’ lives every day in Canada are being told by the media who turn a blind eye to the agony they’re contributing to.
