St. James Parish hosted a unique historic and cultural event recently.
Dozens of children carrying flowers and signs saying “Ave Maria” held a procession May 31. The event, called Santacruzan, is a Filipino tradition that commemorates St. Helena and Emperor Constantine’s discovery of the “true cross” (as Catholic tradition has it) in Jerusalem in the fourth century.
Held in May, considered the month of Mary, the event also honours Jesus’ mother and her special place in salvation history.
