The student council at St. Helen’s Elementary in Burnaby has challenged students to learn about care for the environment and show their support for Australia, a nation currently in the thick of a devastating wildfire season.
The school hosted an assembly to help students understand the situation in Australia and to pray for respect for the planet. Parents also recently hosted a bake sale with the proceeds going toward Red Cross Australia.
St. Mary’s Elementary in Vancouver also raised funds for the Australian Red Cross during a recent no-uniform day Jan. 31.
Canberra, the capital of Australia, has recently declared a state of emergency due to the out-of-control blazes that have destroyed homes, forests, and claimed at least 33 lives.
