PASTORAL LETTER
OF THE MOST REVEREND KEN NOWAKOWSKI,
BISHOP OF NEW WESTMINSTER
ON THE OCCASION OF THE FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD 2019
CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM!
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
With these beautiful words, the Prophet Isaiah foretold the coming of the long-awaited Messiah, eight centuries before His birth.
Today, once again the world’s Christians celebrate the fulfillment of this prophesy and rejoice at the birth of the Prince of Peace.
Angels announced this great news to the shepherds and although such an announcement would have caused them fear, they nonetheless immediately went to see the Messiah. Seeing he had been born in the most humble of places, these shepherds found their fears disappear and their hearts were filled with wonder and joy.
Upon hearing the Good News of Salvation we too can become distracted by the way this message is delivered to us, but like these shepherds we must overcome distractions and fears and simply rush to the crib holding our Lord.
Let the amazement of the humble birth fill our hearts with joy!
Let us share this Joy of the birth of our Saviour with our family and friends.
Sincerely yours in the Lord,
+Ken Nowakowski
Bishop of New Westminster
