Efforts to boost the influence of Christians in Canadian politics are ramping up as the year-old Christian Civic Affairs Committees of Canada expands into more churches with a speaking series featuring well-known political commentators.

The organization’s president Marc Vella said the committees have moved into two more Abbotsford churches – St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Grace Evangelical Church, where he recently spoke about the need for non-partisan political action by Christians.

The committees’ next event is Wednesday, March 4, when Canada’s former Ambassador of Religious Freedom, Father Deacon Andrew Bennett will speak on Living a Robust Public Faith. He’ll speak at St. Patrick’s Church in Vancouver.

On Monday, March 9, St. James Church in Abbotsford will host Abbotsford-Mission MLA Simon Gibson who will discuss provincial political engagement.

On Thursday, April 30, National Post columnist Father Raymond J. de Souza will speak at Sts. Joachim and Ann Church in Aldergrove on the topic Christians Need Not Apply? Faith in Our Public Life Today.

Vella said the organization hopes to expand to other provinces. He welcomes email at [email protected].
