“The world is in constant change, and we need to change with it.”

So said Dale Hofer, the new State Deputy of the B.C. and Yukon Knights, during his acceptance speech at an Annual General Meeting of the Knights in Richmond, B.C.

The Vernon resident, who succeeds past State Deputy Koon Ming Lau, said the Knights have faced a lot of change in the past few years, and that is a fact worth embracing.

“We saw changes in the fourth degree regalia, evolving from Surge for Service to Faith in Action, (the) introduction of the Safe Environment program, online membership,” and others, he said. “The changes that we have seen are here to stay.”

According to a press release, Hofer has described himself as “not a traditionalist,” and cringes when people say “we have always done it this way.” He told those at the annual general meeting that they might find some things done differently this year, and he prays they embrace those changes.

Hofer has held many leadership roles in the Knights of Columbus, including as a Grand Knight, a District Deputy, a State Program Director, a State Treasurer, and a State Secretary. Hofer, his wife Dianne, and their three children, are actively involved in Our Lady of the Valley Church and have twice received the Knights’ Family of the Year Award.

There are about 12,000 Knights in the B.C. and Yukon region.
