I offer a sad farewell to Sister Mary Ellen, the last Sister of St. Joseph of Toronto to serve in the Archdiocese of Vancouver (B.C. Catholic, Jan. 27).

The Sisters inspired me to become a teacher, and although I have been retired for 10 years, the treasured memories of 30-plus years I spent in Catholic school classrooms in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Vernon are only eclipsed by those as wife, mother, and grandmother.

Thank you, Sister Mary Ellen. Thank you, Sisters of St. Joseph. You will not be forgotten.

At the risk of hyperbole, last month’s March for Life rally in Washington, D.C, signifies an epiphany both religious and secular. Never before has a U.S government come so close to outlawing abortion and embracing its duty under God’s sovereignty. Never before has an American president offered more to the pro-life movement, speaking of the “unselfish love” of the movement and vowing to defend the sanctity of all life. It is this resolve Canada’s government lacks.

Thank you for C.S. Morrissey’s Jan. 27 article about Rush drummer Neil Peart.

I wanted to point out one minor error. The article cites the song Aftermath from the Grace Under Pressure album. In fact the song’s title is Afterimage, a word that more accurately depicts the lyrics. It is one of my favourite Rush songs of that era.

Otherwise, thank you for a very well written article!
