In his Oct. 28 article “Common good starts with protecting the truth,” C.S. Morrissey provides an exceptionally well written and timely article on the impact of digital technology and the truth.
However, I don’t think the photo of the Pope’s address at the Vatican climate change conference was an accidental afterthought.
I would encourage readers to look at the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly two related goals:
Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all;
Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Physics by itself demonstrates that even if we eliminate fossil fuels by means of windmills, solar power, and batteries, the use of fossil fuels will continue to increase for at least another 50 years.
If we are absolutely convinced that fossil fuels are the bogeyman in all of this, then what we need is new affordable technology for alternative energy, which we don’t have yet.
We need to pour more money into research. I don’t think this reality has anything to do with the authoritarian oligarchs Morrissey mentions. We just need to accept the fact that we are a long way from the unrealistic goals set by global warming extremists, and we should not be destroying the Canadian economy by this grandstanding.
