A community of students, teachers, and others are celebrating the canonization of a man they all look up to: Cardinal John Henry Newman.
Cardinal Newman was canonized in Rome Oct. 13. St. Mark’s Church in Vancouver hosted a Mass of Thanksgiving in honour of that historic moment Oct. 27.
At Mass, Archbishop J. Michael Miller praised Cardinal Newman as “one of the most influential Christian thinkers” of the last 200 years, a “towering theologian,” and “the invisible thinker of Vatican II” for his teaching on the role of the laity.
People especially engaged in academics look to him for his wisdom and integrity of life, he said.
