Grade 3 students at Corpus Christi Elementary in Vancouver were not thinking only of themselves this Thanksgiving weekend.
Teacher Charlotte D’Alessandro invited the children to collect bottles and cans from a weekend of celebrations with their family Oct. 12-14. They brought the bottles and cans to class the following school day, had them recycled, and took the cash they made to a local grocery store, where they spent it on items for the food bank.
“I wanted to give my students a hands-on experience in helping those in need in their community,” said D’Alessandro.
