For three years in a row, the Joseph Richard Group has held a fundraiser for homeless youth that involves company employees and friends sleeping outdoors on cardboard for one night.
And for three years in a row, that crowd seems to be getting younger. Participant Marie Wynne said an increasing number of children are showing interest in sleeping outside for a good cause, including her children Bellamina (8) and Keaton (6).
It “was incredible to see,” said Wynne, “especially since Bellamina was one of only two kids who participated in it the very first year. I’m definitely proud of her for inspiring so many kids.”
The event was based on a fundraiser by Covenant House called Sleep Out. The JRG has changed the name of its event to One Night Out and supports four charities with the funds: Covenant House, Youth Unlimited, City Dreams Centre, and Variety the Children’s Charity.
In all, the kids (and their parents) raised more than $177,500 for vulnerable young people in one night.
