The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is no small event for a parish in North Vancouver.
An estimated 350 people turned up for Mass and a banquet at St. Edmund’s on that feast July 16. Participants included Carmelite priests, like celebrant Father Jerald D’Souza and homilist Father Alex Braganza, religious and secular Carmelites, and friends. During the celebration, scapulars were blessed and distributed to the congregation.
The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel commemorates the day Our Lady was said to have appeared to St. Simon Stock: July 16, 1251. She presented him with a brown scapular, an item of clothing religious and secular Carmelites wear today.
The popular celebration has been an annual tradition at St. Edmund’s for about a decade and shows no signs of slowing down.
