Thank you for the informative article on port chaplain Deacon Dileep Athaide in the July 12 issue.

I volunteered at the Mission to Seafarers in Vancouver for a few years at the turn of the millennium. Assisting the chaplains on ship visits was my principal activity.

Father Dileep has covered the bases very thoroughly, according to this article.

I recall one occasion where we drove half a dozen Filipino sailors up to Cypress Bowl for their first snow adventure. They just rolled in it and had a great time. And in all those years I met only one Canadian sailor, a young rating who had signed on abroad for the life experience.

Thanks again for your article. It brought back great memories.
