On Dec. 9, 10, and 11, the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra Baroque Ensemble, with Belle Voci and professional soloists, will present Handel’s Messiah at St. James Church in Abbotsford, Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver, and Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church in Surrey. On Dec. 16, a modern version will be performed at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on December 16,2022
This glorious oratorio is a musical rite of the holiday season and includes favourites such as Hallelujah and The Trumpet Shall Sound.
One of the challenges in performing Messiah year after year is to keep the work sounding fresh, as if one had just discovered it. Those in attendance can expect to hear a more detailed, articulate style and quicker tempos based on Baroque dance rhythms and speech patterns.
You have four opportunities to join Music Director Paula DeWit and four amazing soloists, Colleen Donnelly, Shane Hanson, Jonny Michel, and Dave Rosborough. Each venue has stunning esthetics and beautiful acoustics. All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. and are $40.
Tickets are for sale at chilliwacksymphony.com.

Re your Nov. 14 coverage of the World Cup:
On Nov. 20, The Guardian reported that FIFA President Gianni Infantion has so far been paid 2.6 million pounds this year — and said that he feels like a migrant worker. Pete Pattisson, reporting for the Guardian, says that migrant workers, employed as security guards, are paid 35 pence an hour.
