National Catholic Health Care Week (Feb. 1–7) is an annual opportunity to reflect on mission, honour legacy, and celebrate the compassionate work happening every day across Catholic health-care sites.

This year’s theme, “Open Hearts, Healing, Hope,” invites us to recognize the ways we are connected by our shared humanity. It reminds us that healing is never solitary work: it is something we foster together through dignity, compassion, community, participation and hope. These values, rooted in Catholic social teaching, guide the care we provide and shape the kind of workplace culture we strive to build.

From humble beginnings in 1894, Providence Health Care has continued to grow and evolve in service of those most in need. Alongside medical achievements and research over the years, it has never lost sight of its original purpose: to go where there is a need, and to work tirelessly to meet that need.

National Catholic Health Care Week is also a time to appreciate the contributions of all staff who live the mission in their daily actions — through kindness, presence, professionalism and service to residents, families and one another.

This week is an opportunity to reconnect with identity and renew a sense of purpose, reminding us that every act of care contributes to a more compassionate and just society, and that each person plays a role in building a place where everyone belongs.
