VANCOUVER—Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, visited the elderly at Columbus Residence, especially greeting retired priests, Dec. 5.

“Christmas is a time of memory. Most of us can remember Christmas as a child, when the story of Jesus’ birth was first told to us,” the archbishop told residents, family, and employees gathered for the annual Light Up for Christ celebration.

“The Christ who came has not left. He remains everyone’s companion on this short walk, this little pilgrimage we call life. That’s why we celebrate with joy, that God had embraced his earth.”

Light Up for Christ, held annually at the start of Advent, includes carol singing, a warm message from the archbishop, and turning on thousands of lights in the outdoor courtyard.

Archbishop Miller personally greeted many residents, including retired Fathers Benno Burghardt and Bill Somerville.
