VANCOUVER—Staff members at a drop-in centre for the poor and homeless were thrilled to receive a $10,000 donation from the concierge association Les Clefs D’Or Oct. 4.
The Door Is Open co-manager Frances Cabahug said it’s the first time she’s aware of a non-Catholic group raising funds for the charity.
Fairmont Hotel concierge David Reid said, “It’s organizations like The Door Is Open that make me really want to give back to the community because they’re making a difference.”
Les Clefs D’Or hosts an annual cruise to raise funds for Dreams Take Flight and one other charity. For their 6th annual event, they chose The Door Is Open, a centre that provides free, hot meals to people living in the Downtown Eastside 365 days a year.
The cruise raised $10,000 for the charity, more than the $8,000 originally expected.
