More than 80 altar servers were recognized for their service to the Church at the annual Altar Server Awards ceremony at Holy Rosary Cathedral.

At the Mass Sept. 7, Archbishop Miller presented them with medals and thanked each one for their dedication to their faith communities.

“An inspiring sight you are and what hope you give to our parishes and to the whole Church,” he told the large crowd of boys and girls dressed in white.

“Your joy and enthusiasm for life, your willingness to make sacrifices to serve faithfully, and your love of Jesus, especially at the time of Holy Mass, tell us that Christ is alive among the young people of our parishes.”

He said all people are called to serve the Church in some way, and altar servers do so in a special way during the celebration of the Eucharist.

“Your service at Mass expresses your love for God but it also helps your neighbour by ensuring that the celebration is orderly and reverent.”
