Hundreds of pilgrims have honoured Rose Prince, an Indigenous Catholic woman who suffered much but was known for her peaceful nature and humility, once again.
An annual pilgrimage to Rose Prince’s grave and the former site of Lejac Residential School drew a large crowd to Fraser Lake, B.C., July 5-7. The three-day event included Stations of the Cross, confessions, Mass with Bishops Gary Gordon of Victoria and Stephen Jensen of Prince George, and a candlelight procession to Rose Prince’s grave.
Rose Prince died of tuberculosis in 1949 just before her 34th birthday. Her body was found incorrupt during a cemetery transfer two years later and some pilgrims have claimed to have received healing through her intercession.
