St. Catherine’s Elementary students have been focussing on what they can do as a class to help people in need, especially the homeless. Teacher Maria Canil showed them a picture of the Homeless Jesus statue in front of Holy Rosary Cathedral and asked them, “How would you feel if you saw Jesus like this?” Their responses highlighted charitable actions for their neighbours, and the kindergarten class collected 50 pairs of socks for The Door is Open. Val and Chris McKinnon, of All Saints Parish in Coquitlam, volunteer every Monday evening at a Talitha Koum Society recovery home, helping TK clients sew reusable feminine hygiene products to be sent to disadvantaged girls around the world under the auspices of the Days for Girls project. The Talitha Koum sewers are aiming to send 1,000 kits to World Vision in Mississauga, Ontario in early May. “The ladies have sewn and folded fabric, added ribbon, packed components of the kits, and so much more,” the McKinnons say.
