During their Missions Week, March 7-11, the students of Cloverdale Catholic School (CCS) welcomed Audrey Burm, the president of Help Burkina Faso Canada (HBFC), who spoke to them about the charity and the projects that have been completed, some of which were funded by the students at CCS.

Help Burkina Faso Canada is a registered Canadian charity that supports the people of Burkina Faso, West Africa. The volunteer board of directors works with their contact in Burkina Faso to complete projects beneficial to the Burkinabe. To date, the charity has funded the building of a fully functional public school with latrines and a kitchen included. It has supplied the school with books and furnishings (funded by CCS), and drilled a water well in the village of Dakonsin.

In recent years, CCS students participated in various fundraising activities, such as book sales, costume days, and toonie towers.

“I feel happy that we are raising money for the children in Burkina Faso because we are helping lots of kids and families,” said one CCS student. “I can help them, even if they are on the other side of the world. I like helping people and knowing I can make a difference.”

This year during Missions Week the students raised money for the purchase and installation of solar panels to supply electricity to the Pousga School, raising $1,090.
