Elementary students at Holy Cross School in Burnaby met some special visitors Jan. 17 during a celebration of Family Literacy Day.

Guests included Mayor Mike Hurley, Catholic school alumna Dr. Senia Bobanovic, and professional soccer player Alessandro Hojabrpour, who all took turns reading to the children.

Family Literacy Day is an annual event that was first observed in Canada in 1999. It is aimed at encouraging families to spend time reading books together.
