Stations of Christ’s crucifixion to be among the flowers

For the sixth year, the Stations of the Cross will be celebrated among Queen Elizabeth Park’s floral gardens on Good Friday.

By following the path of Christ’s crucifixion, “we are living Pope Francis’ repeated emphasis on encounter (with Christ) and in thanksgiving for the previous Jubilee year of Mercy,” said Ryle Brual, one of the event’s coordinators.

This is the sixth year the Way of the Cross is celebrated at Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver. Communion and Liberation, a lay ecclesial movement, will host the event.

“Communion and Liberation invites everyone in the city to encounter the beauty of Jesus and his Church, especially in the events of his suffering and redemptive love,” said Brual. “He desires to meet us in our humanity so that our natural desire (for love) might find completion in him.”

Celebrating the Way of the Cross is a chance to live out and appreciate Christ’s sacrifice, Brual said. “We are witnessing that Jesus and His Church does engage our lives and daily living in such a way that we can be protagonists, actively engaged in the events of salvation,” he said. “His heart is poured out for ours in these events.”

Brual said the service “appeals to one’s innate humanity, which is truly changed and set free in Jesus, but is never erased but fulfilled and elevated” in Him.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at the fountain beside Bloedel Floral Conservatory, Friday, April 14. For more information email communionliberationvancouver@gmail.com.
