During the Advent and Christmas seasons, The B.C. Catholic will feature the art of members of the Epiphany Sacred Arts Guild.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on Our Lady of the Apparition (also called Our Lady Aparecida, or Our Lady Revealed), a title of the Blessed Virgin traditionally associated with the Immaculate Conception. This icon was written by Ana Maria Silva.

In 1904, the statue of Our Lady Aparecida in Brazil was crowned with gold provided by Princess Isabel, recognizing Our Lady’s royalty and powerful protection, said Silva. Our Lady Aparecida was named the patroness of Brazil by Pope Pius XI in 1930 and is still widely venerated under that name by Brazilian Catholics today.

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is Dec. 8.
