With Remembrance Day drawing near, students from four Catholic schools took a field trip to Vancouver’s Mountain View Cemetery to learn what the holiday is all about.
More than 200 children from St. Mary’s, St. Helen’s, St. Catherine’s, and St. Francis de Sales schools participated in a solemn ceremony Nov. 6. The ceremony, part of No Stone Left Alone, included a bagpiper, moments of silence, prayer, the reading of the poem In Flanders Fields, and a procession.
The students took up stones they had painted to resemble poppies and placed them on the hundreds of headstones in the cemetery’s war memorial section.
