The Oblate who launched the fundraising drive for a new parish centre and rectory at St. Augustine’s in Vancouver has died at the age of 97.

Father Oliver Patrick Mohan, OMI, died June 7 at Vancouver General Hospital.

Father Mohan was born in Churchtown House, Ardee, County Louth, Ireland in 1922 and ordained in the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate on June 29, 1948.

He served throughout B.C., including Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii), Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Prince George, where he was Vicar General from 1962 to 1974.

In the Archdiocese of Vancouver he was pastor at St. Peter’s in New Westminster from 1981 to 1987 and St. Augustine’s from 1989 to 1993, where he initiated the drive in the 1980s for a new parish centre and rectory, a project completed in 1998 under Father Joseph Rossiter.

Father Mohan left Vancouver and was a spiritual director at parishes in Arizona, including Scottsdale and Phoenix. He returned to Vancouver in 2016.

His ashes will be interred in Inchicore, Dublin, Ireland.
