A group of students at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary School have learned a whole lot about the life and habitat of local salmon.

Volunteering with the West Vancouver Streamkeeper Society, the students spent time sloshing around in the mud, counting salmon, and spending time outdoors with their peers.

In the words of student Anthony McDaniel, “The Streamkeeper salmon survey was a great experience. We had a lot of fun and best of all, we were helping the environment. We counted salmon along Brother’s Creek in West Vancouver on Saturday afternoons, seven weeks in a row. This year was a down year, and we didn’t count that many, but it is still important for researchers to know. It was a very fulfilling experience and I think it helps us live out missions as Catholics, to be stewards to the environment. I encourage more people to go and help the environment in their own way.”
