Fifty supporters of a Vancouver pregnancy care centre recently raised $5,800 for women in crisis.

Birthright, located on West Hastings Street, offers a 24-hour helpline and personal support to women who are distressed by their pregnancies. Its 8th annual fundraiser involved family-friendly games, prizes, live music, and a walk around Queen Elizabeth Park.

“The essence of Birthright is love,” said member Debbie Miotto. “Every act of love in support of our mothers and children in crisis is an act of love that shows our commitment to our beliefs and to the greater community. We are not only people who talk the talk, but we also walk the walk.”

Birthright was first founded in Toronto in 1968. The non-profit organization has locations in Canada, the U.S.A., and Africa, and is entirely supported by volunteers and private donations.
