Dan Dobin, the president of Agape Street Ministry, and his wife Sharon have been recognized for 18 years of dedicated service to the poor and vulnerable.

The Dobins joined Agape in 2000 and have since reached out to hundreds of women struggling with addiction, homelessness, and mental illness. The ministry offers candy bags and inspirational messages to women on the streets and partners with a local recovery house.

The couple was named Service Organization Volunteer of the Year at the Surrey-Now-Leader 16th annual community leader awards, held Nov. 14.

"Agape Street Ministry's vision and mission has always been to reach out to share the Gospel message to the women who work in prostitution and those women who have drug and alcohol addictions," they said.

"Over the years many volunteers have given up their free time and the comfort of their homes to walk the streets responding to the call to tell the women that Jesus loves them."
