A mother whose adult son is dying at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver was moved to tears at what she saw as she looked out his room window: on a nearby building was a 20-storey reflection in the shape of a rosary.

Father Larry Lynn, a friend of the family, said the natural phenomenon became a miraculous moment for a dying man.

“Who knows why God does what he does? I only know that he speaks to us in many different ways,” said Father Lynn. “Signs are everywhere. Sometimes they are extremely subtle; sometimes they are overt. This looks to me like an obviously overt sign of the Holy Rosary.”

The man’s mother and sister were visiting his room when they all saw the surprising pattern through the window.

“I believe it is a natural phenomenon caused by a combination of refraction and reflection,” said Father Lynn. “I don’t believe that it is miraculous in itself, but the miracle is that this dying man saw it first and sees it as a sign.”

The photo was shared on the archdiocese’s social media accounts, where it has received hundreds of reactions, shares, and comments on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, many people responding with offers of prayer for the family.
