The demand for bicycles hit record heights during the pandemic, which may explain why the annual Knights of Columbus bicycle drive in Burnaby just keeps getting more popular.

The Knights at Holy Cross Parish have been collecting, refurbishing, and donating used bicycles for charity since 2006, in recent years surviving ever-changing COVID safety protocols and the loss of former partners.

After new partnerships with R.E.C. for Kids, Bicycles for Humanity, and KiaWest, the number of bikes collected by Council 5423 is rising again.

The Knights hope to keep that momentum this year at the 2022 bike drive, Saturday, June 25, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, 1450 Delta Ave, Burnaby.

The Knights and their partners will inspect and sort donated bikes, with R.E.C. for Kids providing some for needy individuals in Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Cloverdale, and North Delta, while Bicycles for Humanity will ship others to a developing country.

Cyclists are also welcome to drop by for a free tune-up, where on-site mechanics can take a look, fix anything that doesn’t require new parts, and explain what they are doing so riders can learn to perform their own tune-ups in the future.
