The passing of Father Federico Buttner was announced Saturday by Holy Rosary Cathedral:

“Today, on the beginning of Holy Week Father Federico Buttner having received all the sacraments of the Church died peacefully in Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. He was assistant priest at the Cathedral with a particular ministry for Hispanics for many years. He was instrumental for establishing the Spanish Mass and community around it. The faithful recognized him for being very kind and patient confessor. There will be a funeral at the Cathedral soon after Easter. May he rest in peace.”

Father Buttner was 60 and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Vancouver in 2005 by Archbishop Raymond Roussin, SM. He served as assistant pastor at Saint Francis de Sales, Saint Edmund’s, St. Mary’s in Chilliwack, Holy Rosary Cathedral, and Immaculate Conception in Delta.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at the cathedral after Easter, however the funeral will not be open to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
