Parishes in the Archdiocese of Vancouver took up Archbishop J. Michael Miller’s recent invitation to hold public Eucharistic processions marking the feast of Corpus Christi.

Below is an excerpt from a homily by the archbishop at Holy Rosary Cathedral on Corpus Christi Sunday, followed by a look at some of the processions that took place.

“After the long trial of the pandemic, which so severely curtailed our public worship, it is fitting that this year the Church in Vancouver give more attention than usual to the traditional Corpus Christi procession.

Today’s procession responds to the mandate of the Risen Lord whose last words were to “go and make disciples,” to go forth even to the ends of the earth.

Our baptism and confirmation call us to go out and bring Jesus to others: to go out with enthusiasm, bringing him to those we meet in our daily lives.

In this sacrament, the Lord is always journeying to meet his world. We bring Jesus Christ, present under the sign of bread, into the heart of our cities.

Throughout the archdiocese, we are entrusting our streets, our homes, our daily life, to his goodness and mercy, praying that all will be imbued with his presence.

Our simple, yet public, processions are an immense blessing for all.

They are signs of our desire to walk with everyone in truth, reconciliation, and healing wherever needed.”
