Kindergarten students cheered as Vancouver College administrators, architects, and others officially broke ground on a new elementary school March 13.

The youngsters will be in Grade 2 by the time the complex construction project - which involves maintaining some heritage elements of the old building - is finished.

Vancouver College president John Nixon said the project replaces an old structure on campus and will, when finished, include elementary school classrooms, a gymnasium, six residences for Christian Brothers, and a chapel.

Father Juan Lucca, the school’s chaplain, blessed the project and those working on it March 13.
