St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation is aiming to be a “light of hope” for Vancouver patients this Christmas season.

The foundation launched its annual holiday giving campaign Nov. 16 with the hopes of raising funds to purchase new equipment and supplies, support new research, and improve patient and residential care. Fireworks were launched into the air, food trucks were out, live music was playing, and an estimated 10 kilometres of string lights were lit up to mark the start of the campaign.

The light display will be lit again every night until Jan. 7. Other hospitals and seniors’ residences under Providence Health Care will also participate with their own light displays during the fundraising campaign.

In a press release, St. Paul’s Foundation said community donations to Lights of Hope have added up to more than $34 million since 1998.
