ABBOTSFORD—St. John Brebeuf Secondary has sent 20 students from Grades 11 and 12 to Nicaragua on a missions trip called Love thy Neighbour.

The school's Anne Fronteddu said the young ambassadors, left March 7 for the small, rural community of La Concepcion, where they will work on a small construction site, volunteer in a local school, visit orphanages, and interact with the Nicaraguan people.

"The students will also get a chance to witness the presence of the Catholic Church in Latin America, and see the richness of the faith in these beautiful people," she said.

Students and teachers have been preparing for the trip for two years: planning, raising funds, and studying the language and culture.

They will return to Abbotsford March 16.
