There is not much written about radio, and what is written is seldom written well, so it was a surprise and a pleasure to read Peter Vogel’s May 28 column “Radio struggles to find an audience,” republished on Gord Lansdell’s excellent Northwest Broadcasters website. To use a weary cliché, I toiled in the vineyards of radio for many years, and it is good to read an article that understands the business, the craft, the occasional art, the craziness.

A kind of déjà vu: I found that Vogel is a member of the faculty of Notre Dame Secondary. That reminded me of the years when another Notre Dame teacher – the venerable Alan Charlton – wrote a series of incisive and perceptive film reviews.

Always a lot of talent in that school on Venables at Renfrew.

Following up on the articles about dementia The B.C. Catholic has been publishing, I wanted to let you know about “incubator” Alzheimer Cafes that are being offered at Beulah Garden Homes this summer.

One incubator took place in May (as noted in the article) but there will be two more: June 26 and Aug. 7. To get more information about them, people can contact: [email protected].

If you need more information from me, please feel free to email me at St. Mark's College.
