POWELL RIVER—While most children in their neighbourhood spent Halloween collecting candy, students from Assumption School put on costumes and went door-to-door asking for non-perishables.

Principal Lisa Berg said within one hour, children from Kindergarten to Grade 9 had collected 960 items for the local food bank.

"This is the fourth year in a row that our school has done this and this year we were inspired, again, by our CISVA year theme: Care for Everyone in Our Common Home."
