POWELL RIVER—Surrey can be a little far for couples in Powell River to travel.
So, when St. Matthew's Parish hosted a Marriage Anniversary Mass for 225 couples celebrating milestone anniversaries, one small parish on the Sunshine Coast decided to host its own.
Nine couples celebrated anniversaries at the Church of the Assumption May 15. Another three couples could not attend, but asked for prayers at the Mass.
In total, the community honoured 556 years of marriage that day. The couple married the longest were John and Simone Trepanier, married 68 years ago on Sept. 2.
